The first Steering Committee meeting took place at the Lyon Defence Staff Headquarters on 10 December 2012 (download the slide show). The meeting was attended by 33 people, representing all project stakeholders. It was an opportunity to make acquaintances, select the project's visual identity and discuss the Commission's requirements in terms of administrative and financial rules.
The second meeting was held on 13 June at the Aspretto military base, following the public seminar.
The Steering Committee will meet once a year.
The partners also expressed a wish to organise Technical Committee meetings for each site. These were held at each of the four sites: Aspretto on 14 January, Chambaran on 7 February, Garrigues on 19 February and Mont Caume on 8 March 2013.
Seminar & European conference
The project kick-off seminar took place on 12 June 2013 at the Aspretto naval base, one of the sites covered by the project (see seminar proceedings).
A European-level conference will also be arranged as part of the project.
Experience-sharing at European level
A European study trip to other LIFE sites will be arranged, to help to build a stronger network of military Natura 2000 sites.
There are also plans to introduce a network of coordinators in one or two other European countries. If this ambition is shared, it will help to build closer ties and lay the foundations for a solid network of Natura 2000 sites across Europe.
CEN Rhône-Alpes and the Ministry of Defence presented the project at the Europe Directe centre, University of Saint-Etienne, on 14 February 2013. This initial presentation was also an opportunity to publish communication material about the project in the abstract.
